Indian Wells Betting: Somdev Devvarman

Today is day five at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. This big tournament provides a couple of value bets for the passionate and well-informed gambler. If we take a closer look at the schedule, the best bets for Monday seem to be two decent and in-form players: Indian star Somdev Devvarman and German player Phillip Kohlschreiber.

Lets take a look at my first pick. The in-form Indian player, Somdev Devvarman, is in great form at the moment as he won nine of his last 12 matches, including wins over Janko Tipsarevic and Marcos Baghdatis already in this tournament. Devvarman only lost to top seeded players Roger Federer and Viktor Troicki, and in Johannesburg to event winner Kevin Anderson. Therefore, he seems to be more than prepared for a third round clash with Belgian player Xavier Malisse.

A successful tennis gambler knows tradition and form are two key factors to consider when placing a good bet. Statistics also favor the Indian player. Devvarman and Malisse have met twice. Both matches were played on hard (Indian Wells is also played on a hard surface) and the Belgian player lost both games as favourite. Therefore, the odds of 2.2 for Devvarman to continue that winning streak looks like value.

Ranked as the world number 84, The Indian player won 85% of his first serve points against decent returner Baghdatis in round two and succeeded five brakes against the Cypriot, so both the serve and return games seem to be working just fine right now.

Xavier Malisse boasts a great win over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in round two. Nevertheless, he has never won more than two matches in a row here at Indian Wells, in seven attempts.

My second pick is the German player Phillip Kohlschreiber to win a set against his Swedish opponent Robin Soderling. If we take a look at their heads-up statistics, we can jump the conclusion that the German is an uncomfortable opponent for the top seed Swede. Soderling was facing a four match losing streak against Kohlschreiber the last time they met, and he finally succeeded to broke this negative record, but he had to come from match point down to do it.

Phillip Kohlschreiber to win a set against Robin Soderling at odds around 1.75 looks like another good value bet.

A bold gambler willing to take a chance and risk a little bit might also consider Alexandr Dolgopolov to beat Juan Martin Del Potro at tempting odds of 3.4. Ukrainian player Alexandr Dolgopolov made a good impression at Australian Open and had a very good season so far. He also jumped more than 40 places in the ATP rankings and is now ranked 23.

Recommended bets:

Back Devvarman at 2.2 to beat Malisse
Phillip Kohlschreiber to win a set against Robin Soderling at 1.75
